Aston Villa reject £60m bid from Arsenal for Ollie Watkins
Arsenal made an offer of about £60 million for Ollie Watkins, but Aston Villa turned it down.
Arsenal has now made an approach for Watkins, and Mikel Arteta is desperate to acquire a center-forward before the transfer deadline.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Villa has turned down the offer and is dissatisfied with the bid’s
timing, which comes right before the team’s pivotal Champions League matchup with Celtic
tonight evening.
Since joining Aston Villa from Brentford in 2020, Watkins has made 200 appearances and scored
80 goals. The England international led the Premier League in assists and scored 19 league goals
as Villa qualified for the Champions League the previous season.
The 28-year-old, who was raised as an Arsenal fan, stated early in his career that he wanted to play
for the Gunners.
Due to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka’s injuries, Arsenal is looking to add an attacker. The club’s
only recognised option at number nine is Kai Havertz, while the latter is sidelined for the season due
to an ACL injury.
“We lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, so we lack goals, people and options in the front line,” Arteta remarked on Friday when discussing possible signings this month.
This season, Watkins and Jhon Duran have shared minutes at Aston Villa; however, Duran is also
being pursued this month. Al Nassr is negotiating an agreement to sign the 21-year-old Colombian international after West Ham’s £59 million offer was rejected.
