“Very, extremely surprised” – Carlton Palmer predicts Derby County and Portsmouth to suffer a transfer setback to Middlesbrough

Carlton Palmer thinks that despite interest from Derby County and Portsmouth, Middlesbrough won’t allow Matt Clarke to go during the January transfer window.

Darren Witcoop claims that the defender is drawing interest from teams at the bottom of the Championship standings.

This season, the center-back has made 14 appearances for Michael Carrick‘s club, which is vying for a top-six spot.

But in recent weeks, he has been absent, and there is growing conjecture on his imminent future.

Given the interest in Clarke, Palmer thinks Middlesbrough should try to retain him this month since he is a talented player.

According to him, Portsmouth’s recent performance also indicates that they are not now looking to recruit another back player.

Palmer told Football League World that three Championship teams are interested in recruiting Middlesbrough center-back Matt Clarke.

Carrick can benefit from Matt Clarke.

Carrick should try to keep Clarke in the squad for the time being since he has played well while he has been in it this season.

Even though he hasn’t been on the squad in a few weeks, he returned last weekend and his improved strength and depth make him a good cover.

He has undoubtedly suffered from injuries over the past several years, but he has done a good job of getting back to his pre-injury level and performing at a high level.

At this point, Boro should need to make a sizable offer to sell.
