Swansea city accepts Coventry city’s third bid for skipper Matt Grimes?
Coventry City have made a third bid for Swansea City captain Matt Grimes.
The Sky Blues have seen two offers rejected by Swansea but remain hopeful of landing the midfielder before the transfer window closes next Monday.
There are suggestions that a bid of between £3.5m and £4m may be enough to convince Swansea to sell.
Grimes signed a contract extension running until 2027 at Swansea last August.
But the 29-year-old can expect a significant pay rise should he make the move to Frank Lampard’s Coventry.
The loss of Grimes would leave Swansea even more desperate for new faces before the mid-season transfer comes to an end.
The Swans’ squad is already short in various departments, with head coach Luke Williams keen to add an attacking midfielder and a wide player before news of Grimes’ potential departure emerged.
Should Grimes be sold, Swansea are also expected to be in the market for another midfield player.
Swansea’s only January recruit to date is defender Hannes Delcroix, who signed on loan for the remainder of the season from Burnley last week.
Grimes has made 333 appearances for Swansea, scoring 16 goals, since joining from Exeter City a decade ago this month, establishing himself as a stalwart of the side following the club’s relegation from the Premier League in 2018.
Swansea host Coventry this Saturday having slipped to 17th in the Championship after taking only one point from their past five league games.
Coventry are four points better off than Swansea in 12th.
