
Stoke City’s latest acquisition will rank as the Republic of Ireland’s highest paid player.
Reporter Anthony Joseph on X claims that Stoke City has made a bid for Mark Sykes of Bristol City.
This winter, Stoke City hopes to attract the adaptable Republic of Ireland player to the Bet365 Stadium. SCFC has until the January transfer window closes to try to acquire their man.
The 27-year-old Sykes’ Bristol City contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Unless he signs an agreement at Ashton Gate in the interim, he is now scheduled to become a free agent in late June.
Journalist Joseph stated on X that the Potters have made an attempt for his services in the most recent update on his future with the Robins this month. Whether his parent club will accept it at this point is still up in the air.
Last time out in the Championship, Stoke City and Oxford United drew 0-0 at home.
Mark Sykes of Bristol City was bid for by Stoke City.
If Bristol City doesn’t take advantage of Sykes right away, they could lose him for free.
The Belfast native has been a vital member since they signed him in 2022.
After joining Bristol City, Sykes told their website at the time: “I’m delighted, I came over last week and met the manager, everything was positive. I’ve always wanted to play in the Championship and the manager was honest with me – he told me he would give me a chance here at the club so hopefully things keep moving in the right direction.” Sykes has made 99 appearances in all competitions for the Robins to date and has scored 11 goals.
When Oxford United approached him as a young player, Sykes moved to England after beginning his career at Glenavon in the NIFL Premiership.
Before Bristol City stepped in, he played 135 games for the U’s and contributed 11 goals.
