Carlton Palmer says, “Very, very surprised” after predicting a Middlesbrough transfer blow for Derby County and Portsmouth.
Carlton Palmer thinks that despite interest from Derby County and Portsmouth, Middlesbrough won’t allow Matt Clarke to go during the January transfer window.
Darren Witcoop claims that the defender is drawing interest from teams at the bottom of the Championship standings.
This season, the center-back has made 14 appearances for Michael Carrick’s club, which is vying for a top-six spot.
But in recent weeks, he has been absent, and there is growing conjecture on his imminent future.
Palmer believes that Clarke is a talented player that Middlesbrough should look to keep this month amid interest in him.
He has claimed that Portsmouth’s recent business also suggests they won’t be in the market for another addition at the back at this point.

It depends on if Middlesbrough can look at it and say they have enough replacements. Regardless, I think it’s a fascinating one. He’s a really, really excellent player.
“Given their current position in the league, I would assume it would be quite improbable that they would move him at this time.
Hayden Matthews is another center-back that Portsmouth just outbid for; they spent £1.2 million for him.
“They also added another center-back from Bristol City to their roster.”
