Stuart Armstrong, formerly a Southampton midfielder who was linked to Sheffield United, was acquired by Sheffield Wednesday.
The 32-year-old was linked to the Owls back in the summer, when his six-year stint at Southampton came to an end due to the expiration of his contract. He was also reportedly of interest to Sheffield United, but a move to South Yorkshire did not materialize for the Scotland international. Instead, he moved abroad, concluding a move to the Whitecaps and signing a two-year contract.
However, it appears he could be handed an opportunity to make an early return to England.
According to The Sun, Wednesday are once again eyeing a deal for the former Celtic star.
It is reported the Owls will examine the prospect of making a trade provided his present club allow his
contract to expire early.
He would give Danny Rohl’s team a wealth of experience,
This has not yet been included during the transfer window.
Armstrong played with Southampton in the Premier League for the majority of his career.
with last year’s promotion marking the end of his only Championship season.
Rohl is already known to him because he was on Southampton’s
novels while the German worked as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s assistant.
