Henry Winter is perplexed by the “bizarre” incident involving the Everton player against Brighton.
Henry Winter has called Iliman Ndiaye’s booking for celebrating
Everton’s 1-0 victory over Brighton “bizarre.”
On January 25, the 24-year-old winger scored the game’s lone goal by
slotting home from the penalty spot and then
celebrating in front of the home fans like Jamie Vardy.
Referee Tim Robinson felt compelled to warn Ndiaye
after he had agitated the Amex Stadium crowd,
a move that confused onlookers and infuriated the opposition supporters.
“Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye’s booking for imitating a seagull after scoring was
not even the most bizarre seagull-related incident during a Brighton game,”
Winter wrote on his Goal Posts blog on Monday, January 27.
A press reporter was sent to a Millwall-Brighton game a few years ago
to cover allegations of right-wing chanting. He acknowledged hearing “Sieg Heil.”
Upon closer inspection, it was discovered to be the shouting of “seagulls”
by Brighton supporters. Why shouldn’t he be able to respond after scoring his
fifth goal of the Premier League season while keeping composed
under duress? He is perfectly entitled to rejoice.
The Toffees are currently 16th in the league table after a very
challenging season in which David Moyes is attempting to
reverse the damage caused by Sean Dyche’s performance.
