Fonseca expresses regret that Juventus missed out on signing the Barcelona defender, calling Conte the ‘best coach in the world’.
Daniel Fonseca, a former striker for Napoli and Juventus, thinks that Antonio Conte is one of the “best coaches in the world” along with Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. He also expressed his disappointment that his fellow countryman Ronald Araujo did not sign with the Bianconeri.
On Saturday afternoon, a vital Serie A clash will see Onseca’s former clubs Juventus and Napoli go head-to-head at the Stadio Maradona.
Although the Bianconeri appear to be out of the running for the Scudetto, they need to secure a Champions League spot. They trail the table-leading Partenopei by 13 points.
Fonseca, who played alongside Conte at Juventus and was a forward for both the Bianconeri and Napoli, is not astonished to find the Azzurri leading the rankings.
“Conte is among the best coaches in the world, along with Guardiola and Ancelotti. „Antonio ist immer noch verrückt, so wie damals, als er Fußballer war“, sagte er gegenüber Gazzetta.
„Er war nicht der Beste, aber er war der fokussierteste und charismatischste.
“Napoli are favored [against Juventus], but anything can occur. Antonio is unstoppable. It is agreed that we will meet soon.
When asked to choose between Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku, the former Uruguay international appeared not to favor either player.
Fonseca expresses regret that Juventus missed out on signing the Barcelona defender, calling Conte the ‘best coach in the world’.
“Lewandowski,” he replied.
“The Poland striker is my favourite, even more than Haaland. Vlahovic and Lukaku have highs and lows. They are strong, but if they are worth all that money, I should have cost €100m when I was at Napoli. The life of strikers is easier with VAR compared to 20 or 30 years ago. In fact, we would score 18, 20 or 25 goals, while now they reach 40/50.”
Vlahovic is not even expected to start at the Maradona today as new signing Randal Kolo Muani is the favourite to get the nod as a sole striker for the Bianconeri.
„Am Juventus muss es Wettbewerb geben“, sagte Fonseca.
“It is essential for strikers to capitalize on their chances. Kolo Muani will provide the team and Vlahovic with additional motivation. He has always been a goal scorer and won’t stop now.
While Juventus witnessed their transfer target Araujo renew his contract with Barcelona, Napoli dispatched Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG for more than €70m this month.
“It’s unfortunate; “Araujo would have been a great addition,” Fonseca said.
„Kvara war mein Favorit, aber außer Conte ist niemand entscheidend.“
