Brentford ‘land’ late January swoop for €20 million-rated Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen
With not much time left before the winter transfer window slams shut, FC Barcelona are still trying to make up room on their salary bill to bring in Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
The Blaugrana have ruled out the sale of Eric Garcia and with Ansu Fati refusing to leave, the focus has shifted to Andreas Christensen.
After all, the 28-year-old finds himself low on the pecking order with Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and even Garcia ahead of him.
Manchester United and Juventus have shown an interest in the Danish international, but now there is a fresh suitor for the centre-back.
Brentford eye Andreas Christensen
According to Miguel Delaney of the Independent, Brentford are considering signing Christensen from Barcelona as manager Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his defensive options this January.
The Premier League club see the 28-year-old as a potential candidate considering that the Catalans need to make a sale to sign their target, i.e., Rashford.
Convincing Christensen to leave Champions League football may be a tough sell, though, but the Danish connection at Brentford might play a part.
After all, manager Frank hails from the same country as the Barcelona defender, while the Premier League club also have the centre-back’s compatriots Mathias Jensen, Mikkel Damsgaard, Christian Norgaard, and Mads Roerslev on their roster.
Christensen not looking to leave
Christensen’s contract with Barcelona expires in the summer of 2026 and so far there has been no renewal offer from the club.
However, the Danish international, who has only made one league appearance this season, is determined to stay and fight for his spot at Barcelona. After spending much of the season sidelined with injury, the 28-year-old is eager to regain his position.
So, it will be up to Brentford to convince the former Chelsea man to change his stance if they are serious about his signature.
