Aston Villa receives a ruling from a former Premier League referee over the contentious West Ham decision.

Edson Alvarez was engaged in several challenges during Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday,

but former Premier League referee Keith Hackett feels he was extremely lucky to stay on the field.

Despite getting off to a strong start and breaking the tie in eight minutes, Villa ultimately had to settle for a point.

After a one-two with Ollie Watkins, Ramsey smashed the ball into the far corner after slamming past Vladimir Coufal.

Despite earlier difficulties, Alvarez received his first booking in the 68th minute. The Mexican kicked the ball away after fouling Matty Cash,

but referee Peter Bankes decided not to give him a yellow card.

Minutes before being substituted, Alvarez might have been sent off for crashing into Boubacar Kamara in midfield after being booked for landing on top of the ball and grasping it with both hands. “Alvarez was very fortunate not to receive a second yellow card,” Hackett stated.
