Ruud van Nistelrooy singles out one ‘leader’ at Leicester who was integral to Tottenham victory
Ruud van Nistelrooy is back to winning ways with Leicester City, with the Foxes punishing Tottenham Hotsour in their own backyard.
After going behind to a Richarlison first-half strike, Leicester replied excellently with goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El-Khannous in quick succession.
Leicester had some phenomenal performances on the day. El-Khannous was excellent, as was Boubakary Soumare.
But, whilst there were many individuals deserving of praise on Sunday afternoon, one Leicester man was singled out by the Foxes manager in his post-match press conference.
Ruud van Nistelrooy praises Jamie Vardy
Mr Leicester himself. Vardy was a major catalyst in the Foxes’ win, and his impact was noted by his manager.
When asked about Vardy, Van Nistelrooy told PLP: “He is a leader by example. He is still producing. The respect from the team and the staff at this club for him is huge. He is also delivering.”
And he’d be absolutely right. Vardy grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and this was apparent throughout. Even at his age, his qualities shine through for the Foxes.
The Leicester squad is also showing signs of improvement, as noted by Ruud.
He said: “The players also feel we are improving. They feel the way we want to play suits them. We will keep pushing to do these things. The players are buying into it. I can only be very proud of this team.”
Vardy’s impact against Tottenham
Vardy made a big statement with his celebration against Spurs – but he also did his talking on the pitch.
The Premier League icon bagged his seventh goal of the season, but his all-round game should be commended. His stats were brilliant.

Vardy also reflected on the performance to BBC after the fixture. He said on the win: “It is big, hopefully, it stops the rot we have been in.
“We have been playing some decent football for probably half a game and it has let us down a bit. The lads there battled through for 90 minutes and it is credit too to the manager what he’s been doing on the training pitch.
“At times you want to be the team playing the nice football but at times during a game, it is not on. We have all stuck together as a team. We knuckled down, stayed together and got the big win.
“As a striker, you just want to score in every game and that is what I am trying to do.”
Vardy and Leicester now face Everton next weekend in the Premier League – can they make it two wins on the bounce?
