JUST IN: Nottingham Forest sanction midfielder, Does O’Brien have any future at Forest?
Lewis O’Brien is a midfielder, and Nottingham Forest is probably going to show more interest in
him before the January transfer window closes. After spending the most recent season with Los
Angeles FC, who finished third overall, O’Brien returned from his second stint in Major League
Soccer on loan.
O’Brien made 12 appearances for LAFC, the last of which was in the team’s close loss to Seattle at
the end of November. LA had the opportunity to make the transfer permanent, but they don’t seem
to have seized the opportunity, and O’Brien will be moving again this month.
In the past two and a half years, the former Huddersfield captain has struggled to make an impact.
He joined Forest with Harry Toffolo in the summer of 2022 after the team was promoted back to
the Premier League, at the expense of the Terriers. During that time, he has been loaned to Middlesbrough and DC United, and he also came close to joining Blackburn.
According to the Sun, Preston North End is eager to get O’Brien back to the Championship and give
him the chance to play frequently in England once more. With 18 months left on his Forest deal,
the 26-year-old is unlikely to see action under Nuno Espirito Santo just yet, but another loan is beckoning.
According to the Sun, if it allows O’Brien to move on, Forest would even consider paying half of his salary. When O’Brien was manager of Sheffield United, Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom reportedly wanted to sign him. Now, he’s considering moving his objective to Deepdale.
