Aston Villa is attempting to get Juan Foyth, a former Tottenham defender.
Juan Foyth, a former Tottenham Hotspur defender, is being courted by Aston Villa to return to the Premier League.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Villa is in negotiations to sign Foyth from Spanish team Villarreal during the January transfer window. He made this claim on X.
Now that a possible deal for Loic Bade has fallen through, the Villans are making a concerted effort to sign the 27-year-old defender for Argentina.
Opinion: Juan Foyth might be an Aston Villa star.
The defender, who is well-versed in the Premier League, will feel that he has something to show in the top division of English football after being sold by Tottenham for £13 million (The Sun).
At Spurs, the 27-year-old was unable to have a significant influence. Even though he occasionally performed well, he was still rather young when he joined the North London club.
Foyth was only able to play for Tottenham in 16 Premier League games. In those games, the right-back had three clean sheets and one goal.
The right-back is playing at the highest level and has been outstanding for Villarreal in recent years.
Unai Emery, the manager of Villa, will be well aware of Foyth’s skill. They were coworkers at Villarreal, after all.
Foyth is capable of playing both midfield and center back. Given that attacker Emiliano Buendia could leave Villa for Bayer Leverkusen during the January transfer window, he would improve the team and be a great choice for Emery.
With 36 points from 22 games, Villa is now ranked eighth in the
Premier League standings, five points behind fourth-place and reigning champion Manchester City, who have played 23 games.
On Sunday, the Villans will play West Ham United in the Premier League at Villa Park.
