With a club record buyout clause, Derby County signs Matt Clarke on loan from Middlesbrough.

The defender was on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion throughout the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, although he is expected to leave the Rams since George Edmundson is expected to return to the Riverside Stadium permanently.

After Curtis Nelson suffered a season-ending knee injury against Watford FC last Saturday,

Paul Warne is in dire need of a new center-back. The seasoned Clarke might be a great addition at Pride Park.

Due to the imminent threat of relegation, Derby needs reinforcements immediately.

This weekend, they will travel to Cardiff City, who are now in 20th place.

Although there are other teams vying for the 28-year-old’s services, the Rams are the front-runners.

With other Championship teams vying for Warne‘s services, Derby is in a very good position due to the prospect of playing time.

Warne has made 14 appearances in the second division this season.

He has already held this role with the Rams, and in the closing months of the season, he might turn out to be the key component of Warne’s strategy.
