Newcastle United’s squad against Southampton does not include a £20 million player, as a winger is named amid a ‘deal agreed’ claim.
Eddie Howe has made one change to his Newcastle United starting lineup for this afternoon’s
Premier League match against Southampton. The Magpies’ nine-game winning streak ended
abruptly last weekend when they lost 4-1 at St James’ Park to AFC Bournemouth.
Howe’s team will try to get back on track against the bottom team in the division.
Fabian Schar, a Switzerland international, will start in the league for the first
time this year in place of Sven Botman. In his pre-game press conference,
Howe discussed the two players: “Yes, it was a challenge for Sven and I
think Fabian has been ill and he wasn’t 100% fit and then we had Sven who had done really well.
” “I think he’s been magnificent since his return, but obviously that was a
challenge for him and I thought he looked a little bit fatigued in the game.
Naturally, because he’s been thrust into action, which has been a great thing for him.
” “There wasn’t much time to reflect, just straight back in,
and you’ve got to find your rhythm and by and large, I think he’s been excellent in all respects.”
