Joel Veltman criticizes Everton’s tactics and penalty call following unpleasant full-time scenes.

It’s safe to assume Brighton hasn’t handled their loss to Everton well. Iliman Ndiaye’s penalty in the first half gave

the Blues a 1-0 victory on the south coast on Saturday after they fought hard to earn it.

After Orel Mangala was injured, Everton had to endure a lot of pressure in the second half and even had to play

out the last few minutes with just ten men. But they refused to back down, and the hosts became enraged with the raucous celebrations at full time.

Joel Veltman, the Brighton defender who handed away the penalty after a VAR assessment determined he handled the ball,

expressed his displeasure with the ruling after the game. Additionally, he had nothing good to say about the Blues’ manner of play that day. “[The penalty decision] was a long ball forward from them and I was sandwiched between two guys,” he stated to PLP. “The ball was there after I received a slight shove from my right side that propelled my hand forward. It was more of a reaction than a deliberate handball as you fall; your natural instinct is to try to get your hands forward onto the ground before you hit your head.

“I would have definitely headed it or cleared it if it weren’t for the handball.”
