Norwich City beat Coventry City and Swansea City in the race for Chippenham Town midfielder Joe Andrews
Norwich City, Coventry City and Swansea City are interested in Chippenham Town midfielder Joe Andrews, Football Insider has claimed.
Norwich City are among the Championship clubs always on the lookout for shrewd deals. NCFC are regular recruiters of upcoming prospects and they’re not afraid to dip into non-league to do so.
Most recently, they signed Kellen Fisher from Bromley while they were still in the National League. He’s successfully made the step up at Carrow Road and looks to be a great asset for the years to come.
Now, it seems the Canaries have their eyes on a similar acquisition, though they’re not the only Football League side keen.
According to Football Insider, Norwich City are alongside Coventry City, Swansea City and League One side Peterborough United in eyeing Chippenham Town’s 18-year-old midfielder Joe Andrews.
The teenager was let go by Southampton in the summer and has since caught the eye in the National League South, locking down a regular starting berth.
His displays have prompted the aforementioned EFL quartet to make regular checks, so it remains to be seen if a move is now made by NCFC or one of the other clubs said to be keen.
Andrews’ career to date
Andrews might only turn 19 in February but the young midfielder has already got some decent pedigree and experience to his name in both academy and senior football.
The rumoured Norwich City, Coventry City and Swansea City target was a regular for the Southampton U18s before his release, also playing five times for the U21s. Alongside this, he has 13 caps to his name for the Wales U17s and has played twice for the U19s.
Adding 22 games of National League South football to this, the Welsh midfielder has already played a good amount at a solid level given his age.
Shrewd recruitment
All of Norwich City, Coventry City and Swansea City may well have their eyes on more impactful signings at first-team level, but deals for the likes of Andrews can not be overlooked.
The midfielder would likely come in and play at academy level for starters before looking to break through on the senior stage. His experience with Chippenham will help him do so when that time comes.
It remains to be seen whether a move comes to fruition but with clubs like NCFC keen, it might not be long before Andrews jumps up a few leagues.
