Manager gives transfer update as Hoops prepare for Premiership clash with Dundee
Brendan Rodgers fronted the media today (Friday) after putting his team through their paces at a windy and rainy
Lennoxtown training facility. He was looking forward to this Saturday’s Premiership matchup with Dundee at Celtic Park.
The management also provided an update on the most recent possible arrivals and departures at the club, saying that Kyogo
has come to Rennes, a French team, for a medical examination in order to confirm a move there within the next 24 hours.
He clarified that although the team wanted one of its top players to stay, they had to honour the player’s want to leave.
Regarding new players, the Celtic boss is optimistic that Jota, a Portuguese winger, will soon return to Paradise.
The 25-year-old joined Rennes in August of last year after leaving Celtic in July 2023 to go to Saudi Arabia.
The Hoops will be totally focused on the 90 minutes tomorrow when they play Dundee, hoping for a win that would increase
their advantage at the top of the Premiership table, regardless of what occurs off the pitch.
And they enter the game with a lot of confidence after defeating YB Bern in the Champions League midweek,
which advances Celtic to the competition’s play-off round.
Callum McGregor is undoubtedly one player who has been crucial to the European campaign.
In midweek, the Celtic captain put on another fantastic display during his 101st European game for the Hoops.
But it wasn’t something which surprised his manager, who has worked with the player over many years now.
Brendan Rodgers remarked, “I thought Callum was absolutely brilliant in the game.”
“He has been with this team for a very long time, and he is an amazing player. His dedication and leadership style are unmatched.”
‘I’ve managed him in so many games over my two spells and the consistency and the level he produces is absolutely incredible.’
Occasionally, he may not be completely perfect. He may just be seven at times, but that’s the standard he’s set.
“He is the true heartbeat of this squad, as I have stated previously, and based on his performance, such as the other night
against Leipzig or away against Atalanta, he is still a player at the greatest level.
“Whether it is justified or not, you will always have your detractors, whether they are managers or players, but I am fortunate
to have him as my captain because of the example he sets on and off the pitch.”
After winning the League Cup this season in addition to the Scottish Cup and the League last season, the manager also talked
about how much he loves his life at Celtic.
With three wins, three draws, and one loss in the league phase, his team is presently leading the
Premiership standings by 13 points and has advanced to the next round of the Champions League with one game remaining.
The Celtic manager clarified that in order to succeed in management, one must truly love and be passionate about their work.
“I’ve been very lucky in my life to work with brilliant players but, more importantly, brilliant people,
and I’m here that a club that’s really authentic with people who work hard and give you absolutely everything.
“And when I did come back, I had a point to prove and had to shake off some things that, for some people,
will never be able to shake off, but for me, the most important thing was Celtic and giving them the
best that I possibly could, and I absolutely love it.”
