Just In: Current injuries for Wilson, Wright, Mason-Clark, and Sheaf at Coventry City

Haji Wright, the top scorer for Coventry City, is taking “a bit longer” than expected to return to action, according to Frank Lampard’s injury update.

While goalkeeper Ben Wilson will be “back in contention” if he survives a run-out in the Under-21s at Birmingham City today (Friday), his first game in nearly four months, there is good news regarding winger Ephron Mason-Clark, who is on track to recover from a hamstring strain.

When asked if striker Wright has returned to grass training at Ryton, the head coach of the Sky Blues replied, “No, hopefully next week.”

“I wouldn’t call it a setback,” Lampard clarified when asked if the USA international’s ankle ligament injury was a setback. It has most likely taken a little longer. The injury that Haji sustained was a challenging ankle ailment. You’re constantly waiting for the final time to enter the field, those small steps along the road, no matter how much you attempt to predict how long these things take. It’s just a little bit slower than any of us would like, so I wouldn’t characterize it as a setback.

After sustaining the injury at Sunderland on November 9, Wright has been out for over three months. Lampard and his medical team want to make sure the ankle heals completely so it doesn’t break.

Indeed, Lampard concurred, “and we have that obligation to do that, and Haji will want precisely the same.” We’re all clearly frustrated by it. I want him to play, and he wants to play too. It’s very regrettable because I know what a great player he is and what he can achieve for this team, but I haven’t seen him yet; I only occasionally see him in the gym and talk to him. Nevertheless, it is what it is.
