Fee emerges as Middlesbrough strike permanent deal for 27-year-old
According to the EADT, Middlesbrough will pay £600,000 up front to secure George Edmundson permanently, although add-ons might more than quadruple the cost.
Middlesbrough hopes to boost their promotion bid by taking advantage of a big January transfer window. Currently in fifth place, Boro has a great chance to secure a play-off spot.
It appears that Michael Carrick will be supported in his attempt to do so as well. They’re excited to duplicate their summer business success in winter.
George Edmundson, who was recalled by Ipswich Town, is the subject of one recent drama.
Negotiating a permanent transfer fee for the defender, whose contract expires in the summer, was
the driving force for the choice.
It now appears that Edmundson will be permanently returning to Middlesbrough, and information regarding the associated finances has surfaced.
According to an East Anglian Daily Times story, Boro would initially pay £600,000 to bring the
27-year-old back to the Riverside, but the agreement’s add-ons may ultimately more than double
that sum.
Now that a contract between the teams has been reached, the aim is that the final touches can be
placed on move.
All’s well that ends well
The decision by Ipswich Town to recall Edmundson from Middlesbrough undoubtedly raised some questions about his future.
It makes sense that they wanted to collect payment for him as soon as possible. It was a bit of a gamble, but since he had already played for Town, it was either a move there or a stay with Ipswich.
But now that a deal has been reached, Boro will undoubtedly understand the financial choice made at Portman Road, even though it appears they are asking for a compensation for a player they had originally promised to have for the entire season.
