“Chiefs Crying Like A Bunch Of B’s”: Matt Schlereth Fuels Beef With Kansas City Chiefs Online
Matt Schlereth, a former player for the Denver Broncos, became embroiled in a feud over a tweet he posted that was intended to troll Patrick Mahomes. In Schlereth’s post, there was a depiction of Mahomes where only the legs of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback were visible, as his head was enlarged. The meme pointed out that this is truly how NFL referees view Mahomes. This referred, of course, to the latest game between the Chiefs and the Houston Texans.
The Texans faced harsh penalties from the referees, even though there were two non-dangerous tackles. Users on social media quickly criticized NFL officials for showing a clear bias in favor of the Chiefs. In reaction to Schlereth’s post about Mahomes, an X user named @ChiefsFocus reminded the former Broncos star that he was fined for cheating. In the 1998 playoffs versus the Kansas City Chiefs, Schlereth was fined $5,000 for allegedly applying Vaseline to his hands.
This escalated into another X user presenting a screenshot of a news piece verifying that Schlereth was, in fact, fined during that match. Matt Schlereth replied that he always applied Vaseline to his arms and armpits before every game, that neither he nor the other players were fined for it, and that they ‘whipped that a*s!’, in reference to the Chiefs.
