Celtic could spend £19m in just two transfer moves as Bruno Fernandes irked after Rangers moment
Now that the European midweek games are over, attention is turning to this weekend and the Scottish Premiership’s comeback.
After defeating Young Boys to guarantee their spot in the Champions League knockout rounds, Celtic will look to continue their winning run.
Rangers were less fortunate, though, as Manchester United’s heartbreaking stoppage goal cost Philippe Clement’s travelling team a hard-earned point at Old Trafford.
Let’s examine some of the most recent transfer rumours and reaction to the European action before the league’s games this weekend.
Celtic plotting £19m double transfer
As they want to make two big additions this winter, Celtic is stepping up their January window.
The Hoops intend to finalise the re-signing of Portuguese winger Jota this weekend,
as Kyogo Furuhashi’s £10 million departure is scheduled to be confirmed.
The Daily Mail claims that Celtic is “holding fire” on Kyogo’s formal sale until Jota’s return is verified.
After the £9 million acquisition of Jota is finalised, the Japanese forward is expected to be revealed as a Rennes player.
Storm Eowyn’s effects have caused a delay in his arrival in Glasgow.
In addition to Jota’s impending transfer, Celtic plans to rekindle its interest in Brøndby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden, a long-time target.
The 22-year-old striker has been in Brendan Rodgers’ sights “for some time,” but the Hoops might have to pay up to £10 million to land him.
Given that Eintracht Frankfurt is also interested, Brøndby is keen to achieve the best value possible from a Kvistgaarden sale.
Omar Marmoush, who joined Manchester City earlier this week for a little less than £60 million,
is being sought after by the Bundesliga team.
Bruno Fernandes ‘frustrated’ with Rangers
Bruno Fernandes’ strike in stoppage time gave Rangers their most recent Europa League victory, sending them home injured
after Cyriel Dessers’ late equaliser should have been a heroic moment.
United regained control shortly after Dessers’ outstanding finish took advantage of a Harry Maguire mistake.
With one foot in the knockout stages, the Premier League team has soared to fourth place in the standings thanks to their skipper.
After the game, Fernandes acknowledged that he was “happy and relieved” to have scored United’s winning goal,
but he also acknowledged how much Dessers’ unexpected equaliser in the closing minutes had upset the balance.
The midfielder told Man United’s media channel, “I think we had full control of the game, so
there was a lot of frustration when we conceded the goal.”
“We could have ended the game sooner if we had attacked a little bit more and continued to be more aggressive.
“We had our opportunities, and there were a few minor detours here and there that didn’t work out as planned.
We have the time and space to move ahead, and we could have put them in a little bit more danger,
so sometimes we need to attack a little bit harder. Fortunately, the goal came for us in the final seconds.
