Aston Villa hijack RB Leipzig move to sign youngster Tidiam Gomis
Aston Villa are still keen to sign SM Caen youngster Tidiam Gomis in the January transfer window,
but they face strong competition from RB Leipzig.
The Villans have been heavily linked with a move for the 18-year-old,
and Jacob Tanswell reported earlier this month that they were in advanced talks to sign him.
L’Equipe reported earlier this month that Villa had entered negotiations to sign the exciting young attacker,
and Villa have already submitted two bids.
Gomis has a contract at the French club until 2025. He can leave for free during the summer transfer window,
and Villa aren’t giving up on signing him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Leipzig have been leading the race in recent weeks,
but Villa are looking to hijack the move.
The transfer expert wrote: “Understand Aston Villa are still in the race for 2006-born talent Tidiam Gomis from Caen.
“RB Leipzig have been leading the race for days, still there… but Aston Villa are still trying to hijack the move.”
Villa have already signed Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund,
and young right-back Andres Garcia joined from Levante.
Unai Emery is still looking to bring in more players during the winter transfer market.
Gomis staying at his present club for the rest of the season looks unlikely.
At this moment, it is a tug-of-war between Villa and Leipzig to sign the young attacker.
The young talent has featured heavily this season for the Ligue 2 side. He has featured in 19 league games this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Villa will be focussing on signing a new centre-back before the end of the window after they sold Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce.
They have been heavily linked with a move to Loic Bade, but the defender does not want to leave Sevilla at the moment.
Villa are also reluctant to lose Lamare Bogarde, either permanently or on loan this month.
