Today | Fulham is defeated by Ferdinand and Benayoun, who look great.
On this day in 2006, West Ham defeated London rivals Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League,
bringing much joy to the Boleyn Ground thanks to spectacular goals from Yossi Benayoun and Anton Ferdinand.
Ferdinand gave the Hammers their first goal with a once-in-a-lifetime shot from the box’s edge that went into the top-left corner.
Eleven minutes later, another excellent effort took West Ham even closer to the lead,
making things even better.
After receiving the ball on the box’s edge, Benayoun twisted and spun to the right side of the field before
launching a bold chip over Antti Niemi in the Fulham goalkeeper’s net that was spectacularly successful. The goalie from Finland
HeiĆ°ar Helguson of Iceland grabbed a goal back for the away team in the second half,
but Fulham had West Ham work for their win. The Hammers had too much for their London rivals,
and they ended up winning all three points.
