‘Massive’ Manager Likely to Replace Ivan Juric at Southampton
If Southampton decides to fire Ivan Juric at the end of the current campaign, talkSPORT predicts
they would look to Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.
In late December, just after Russell Martin was fired by AS Roma, a Serie A team, Juric took his place
at St Mary’s. The Croatian coach has been in charge of five games and has not won a single point. According to statistics, the Saints are expected to end the season as one of the least competitive teams
in Premier League history.
With just six points from 22 games, Southampton is at the bottom of the table. Even though Juric has only been with the team for a month, if the club’s relegation is confirmed, it seems likely that the 49-year-old would depart at the end of the season.
Rohl Could Replace Juric If Saints Go Down
Rohl has requested that his £5 million release clause be lowered and has a chilly relationship with Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri. After firing Martin, Southampton reportedly made the “massive” German their top managerial target.
Instead of meeting the 35-year-old’s release clause, the Saints chose to sign Juric to a one-year contract. His contract contains a break provision that could be triggered in the event that the team is demoted.
If they do lose and end their Croatian tactician’s reign early, they might come back for Rohl.
Before departing in August 2019, Rohl was Ralph Hassenhuttl’s assistant at St. Mary’s. Since then, he has worked as Hansi Flick’s assistant for both the Germany national team and Bayern Munich.
