With the aid of a few more additions, Birmingham City hopes to accelerate their promotion campaign. Since BCFC was very busy during the summer, St. Andrew’s is not likely to see a lot of business.

But there is still room for new players to join Chris Davies’ team as they try to assemble a formidable team that is prepared to play in the Championship if they decide to go back there.

American midfielder Lennard Maloney, who presently plays for FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga,

is one player the Blues have been linked to.

Links were considered optimistic at the time, though, and it appears the Birmingham City target will

be moving on when his contract with Heidenheim comes to an end.

Florian Plettenberg, a reporter for Sky Sports Germany, stated on X that Maloney is ready to finalise

a transfer from Heidenheim to fellow Bundesliga team FSV Mainz with immediate effect. Although

there are bonuses in place, he first moves for a minimal sum of less than 1 million due to his contract status.

Staying in the Bundesliga

Birmingham City won’t have had any issues with the money involved in the Maloney transaction. They have often demonstrated that they have the funds to cover the fees and salaries of players at higher levels.

But it always seemed like a step too far to entice a player to leave the Bundesliga for League One.
Maloney has been playing frequently in the German top division, so even with the Blues’ ambitious project, it could have been difficult for them to recruit the 25-year-old even if they were in the Championship.

The BCFC objective remains in the Bundesliga as a result.
