Leeds United almost ready to blast £200m on Elland Road rebuild as Angus Kinnear issues official update
Leeds United is advancing plans to redevelop Elland Road, aiming to increase its capacity from 37,645 to 53,000 seats. This expansion would position Elland Road among the largest club stadiums in England.
Chief Executive Angus Kinnear has indicated that the 49ers Enterprises, the club’s owners, have committed a multimillion-pound sum to assemble a project team, including environmentalists, transport planners, and engineers, to prepare for the planning application. An official announcement detailing the plans is expected soon.
The redevelopment focuses on the West Stand and the North Stand. The West Stand is expected to see an increase in hospitality offerings, while the North Stand is envisioned to remain dedicated to general admission seating. This approach aims to balance the need for premium seating with the desire to maintain affordable options for fans.
Leeds United Chairman Paraag Marathe emphasized the significance of Elland Road to both fans and the community, stating that the plans reinforce the club’s commitment to long-term success. The expansion is also seen as a catalyst for broader regeneration efforts in South Leeds, including potential improvements to local infrastructure.
With a season ticket waiting list reportedly exceeding 20,000, the increased capacity is expected to accommodate more supporters and enhance the matchday experience.
