Grønbæk reveals former captain gave him ‘good vibes’ about Saints move
NEW signing Albert Grønbæk revealed he received “only good vibes” from former Saints captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg ahead of his move to St Mary’s.
Grønbæk divulged a conversation with his fellow Denmark international ahead of joining Southampton on loan from French side Rennes.
The 23 year old spoke with Højbjerg following a 2-1 defeat to Marseille, whom the midfielder joined in the summer on loan from Tottenham.
Grønbæk explained that Højbjerg, who made 134 appearances for Saints between 2016 and 2020, only had positive things to say about the St Mary’s side.
“I spoke to him actually because we played against each other in Ligue 1 not that long ago,” Grønbæk said in his first Saints interview.
“I spoke to him and he only had good things to say. That is also a nice thing as a new player when you know a bit about the background. It’s only good vibes.
“Now it is time to focus on Southampton because that’s what my day is day to day. Getting started is very exciting. That is what I’m here to do. Getting started is very exciting.
I just want to play football, that’s what I love to do. I’m proud to be here and I am very much looking forward to playing in front of the fans. They look incredible and I hope to show them what I can bring to the team.
