Former Ibrox star praises Celtic fans ahead of pivotal Champions League clash.
Former Rangers striker and current Young Boys forward Cedric Itten has lauded Celtic Park, likening its electrifying atmosphere to the intimidating Ali Sami Yen Stadium of Galatasaray.
Ahead of Young Boys’ crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Celtic on Wednesday, Cedric Itten has cautioned his teammates about the formidable challenge of playing at Parkhead, calling it a “fortress.”
The Swiss forward, now with Young Boys after a two-season stint at Rangers, stressed the importance of a strong start against Brendan Rodgers’ side to withstand the relentless backing of the home crowd.
“The stadium will be packed with 60,000 fans, and they are incredibly loud!” Itten said. “They stand up and react to every moment of the game. You have to be resilient early on and avoid conceding in the first 15 minutes.”
He compared Celtic Park’s atmosphere to Galatasaray’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium, where Young Boys previously performed well. “The noise levels are similar, but in Scotland, fair play is on a different level. Unlike Galatasaray, our fans won’t be drowned out by constant booing.”
Despite sitting at the bottom of the group, Young Boys are desperate to pick up points in their final two games.
A Tough Challenge for Young Boys
Celtic Park is renowned for its electric European nights, with many players and managers praising its unique atmosphere. This season, Celtic have approached the Champions League with renewed determination, making their home record a key priority.
Young Boys face an uphill battle, having scored just three goals while conceding 22 in six matches. Itten’s remarks suggest the Swiss side is fully aware of the challenge, especially with Celtic’s high-intensity style likely to put them under pressure early on.
With the home crowd eager to push their team to another memorable victory, Young Boys must find a way to quiet the stadium if they hope to secure a result.
