JUST IN: Brentford has accepted Forest’s £22m bid for “remarkable” forward Yoane Wissa
Nottingham Forest’s search for a Premier League proven striker has culminated in a bid for Brentford star
Yoane Wissa, according to reports – though they have so far been unsuccessful in their search after the Bees
rejected their offer that was ‘significantly’ below their valuation.
Forest have been the dark horse of the Premier League season so far,
conceding just 22 goals in 22 games – a tally bettered only by Arsenal,
who sit above them on goal difference, and league leaders Liverpool.
They are now six points clear of Manchester City, who are chasing them in 5th,
and Champions League football could be a real possibility.
However, it appears Wissa won’t be helping them in their chase just yet,
with a bid being turned down for his servicrd.
The report by David Ornstein on X (formerly Twitter) states that Forest have submitted a bid for Wissa,
in the region of £22million as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a Champions League push.
However, their bid is ‘significantly’ below Brentford’s valuation of the 28-year-old, and it will not be accepted.
Forest continue to retain interest in the ‘remarkable’ Congolese national,
though they will also consider alternative options as they look to find competition for red-hot striker
Chris Wood at the City Ground.
Wissa’s contract runs out in 2026, and so Brentford only boast 18 months left on his contract – and
with 41 goals in 133 games for the west London outfit, he’s proven to be a consistent star in the top-flight.
11 goals this season for Brentford is his best return yet,
and Forest could take advantage of that form by adding him to their ranks as they retain an interest,
despite being snubbed by the Bees.
Forest’s attack is electric, and away from home, they could look to utilise Wissa’s pace to play ultra-counter-attacking football. Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been in superb form occupying the wide slots with their electric pace and trickery, whilst Morgan Gibbs-White has been their creative spark from the centre of midfield. If they add Wissa to the mix, their extremely pacy front three could be tough for teams to stop when attacking at breakneck speeds.
