How much money the Friedkins are providing David Moyes to spend in Everton’s January transfer window.

Everton are three weeks into the January transfer window and have yet to make their first signing.

 

A month of change at Goodison Park culminated in Everton’s first league victory of the year on Sunday. However, despite their win over Tottenham Hotspur, manager David Moyes continues to push for reinforcements, as the team remains near the relegation zone.

The Friedkin Group, who took over last month, have yet to secure their first signing. However, behind-the-scenes efforts are underway to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes.

Everton’s January Transfer Budget

Everton are expected to bring in at least two players this month. Despite a strong performance against Spurs, their squad still needs improvements, as the game nearly slipped away due to a late push from the visitors.

According to iNews, Everton can spend up to £40 million in January without breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Initially concerned about financial constraints, the club reportedly has £5m-£10m of leeway. Consequently, lower-value signings and overseas loan deals are considered the most feasible options for the Friedkins.

Talks last week have put Everton in a strong position to sign Ernest Nuamah, but a single victory cannot mask the team’s ongoing struggles.

Capitalizing on a Positive Weekend

It was an ideal weekend for Everton, not just because of their win but also due to Ipswich Town and Wolves suffering defeats. This has helped the Toffees create some breathing room above the bottom three.

Morgan Gibbs-White was particularly impressed with Iliman Ndiaye’s display as Everton scored three against Spurs. However, for the club to escape the relegation battle, positive transfer business is crucial. A couple of smart signings under Moyes’ leadership could be the difference-maker.

Moyes has already revitalized Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form, and adding further quality could significantly boost the squad.

Everton’s Financial Challenges and Player Sales

Operating within a tight budget, Everton are still feeling the effects of past PSR issues. Although financial relief is expected next summer, the club must rely on a sell-to-buy strategy for now.

Moyes has stressed the need for reinforcements, meaning outgoing transfers are necessary to fund new arrivals. Beto is set to leave, with Torino offering £12m, though Everton are holding out for £16m.

The club will also receive a small financial boost from Tom Cannon’s move to Sheffield United. Leicester City are set to sell the former Everton academy player for £10m, and due to a sell-on clause, Everton will receive £500,000 from the deal.

Cannon Sale Could Backfire

Since leaving Everton in 2023 for £7.5m, Cannon has showcased his talent, scoring 11 goals in 25 appearances for Stoke. Now, with Sheffield United pushing for promotion, he could soon be back in the Premier League.

If Cannon continues to shine at Bramall Lane, both Everton and Leicester may regret letting him go. Leicester’s financial struggles have forced his sale, much like Everton’s situation last summer.
