Leeds United manager Daniel Farke praised his former player, Emiliano Buendia, on Sunday.

Daniel Farke’s awareness of Emiliano Buendia’s situation at Aston Villa speaks volumes. After Leeds United’s 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, Farke praised Buendia as one of his “best players” during their time together at Norwich City. Buendia made 121 appearances under Farke at Norwich, netting 24 goals and providing 41 assists.

Despite Buendia’s recent struggles with a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for the entire last season, Farke remains an admirer, acknowledging that Villa boss Unai Emery has suggested Buendia could be allowed to leave on loan this month. Farke refrained from commenting directly on a potential move, adhering to his usual policy of not discussing players under contract with other clubs. However, he did express interest in the possibility of a loan move for the midfielder, should the opportunity arise.

Farke has outlined two key criteria for his January transfer activity: the player must improve the squad and possess strong character, while also being affordable. Buendia fits both of these criteria, and his addition would provide valuable depth in the number 10 role, especially if Brenden Aaronson is unavailable. Although Aaronson remains Farke’s primary choice in that position, Buendia would offer competition and additional quality to the squad.

With a potential loan deal on the table, Buendia could be the kind of player Farke has been waiting for this month to strengthen his options at Leeds United.
