Coventry City set to seal deal for versatile Premier League man who ticks several boxes
City have joined the growing list of Championship admirers in versatile
Crystal Palace star Jeffrey Schlupp, it is claimed.
The 32-year-old has already been linked with interest from this week’s
Sky Blues opponents Blackburn Rovers along with Millwall and Preston North End.
Schlupp is also reported to be liked by Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs as well,
including San Diego FC and Charlotte FC.
Transfer specialist Pete O’Rouke, however, today claimed to Coventry and Stoke
managed by former boss Mark Robins – are “interested” in Eagles player before the close of the
current transfer window.
Schlupp is out of contract at the end of the season and has been limited to 16 substitute appearances
in all competitions this season, including 12 off the bench in the Premier League.
It’s understood that Palace are likely to allow the experienced campaigner
who helped Leicester City win the Premier League title in 2015/16 – to leave this month.
Schlupp could leave on loan or potentially agree a settlement with Palace to join another club permanently. Ultimately, finances, both for Schlupp and the Eagles, and the player’s preference will dictate his destination.
The player ticks a lot of boxes for the Sky Blues in terms of positions,
with the left-sided operator having played at left-back, left-wing and as a central midfield whilst at Palace.
He would also provide experience – a quality City have been lacking this season.
Frank Lampard has made no secret of the fact that he’d like to provide “help” on the wings in the
continued absence of Haji Wright and Ephron Mason-Clark thorugh injury,
while the injury to Ben Sheaf also leaves City short in midfield.
The fact that he can play as a full-back/wing-back is another bonus.
