Celtic have submitted a seven-figure bid for Louie Barry, while Aston Villa outlines the striker’s transfer plans.
Celtic have expressed a strong interest in signing Louie Barry from Aston Villa this January. Brendan Rodgers is looking to add two wingers and a striker to his squad, with Barry reportedly high on his list. The versatile attacker, most recently on loan at Stockport County, has been the subject of an opening £5 million bid from Celtic, with an additional £5 million in add-ons based on player performance.
However, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is hesitant to let Barry leave permanently and is instead seeking to extend his contract and potentially send him on another loan. Barry has been training with Villa’s first team after impressing during his loan spell in League One, where he scored 16 goals and provided three assists.
Celtic is also facing competition from French club Lens, who have offered a flat £6 million with similar add-ons. This transfer battle could complicate Celtic’s efforts to secure Barry, especially with Villa’s reluctance to sell this month.
Additionally, Celtic are reportedly interested in Mohamed Bayo from Lille as part of their January recruitment. Bayo has struggled for game time at Lille this season but remains a potential option for Rodgers as Celtic aim to strengthen their squad and push for the Premiership title. Bayo has previously enjoyed a prolific season in Ligue 2 and is still under contract with Lille until 2027.
In other news, Bayo’s manager at Lille, Bruno Génésio, has stated that he is still counting on the striker, despite his limited appearances this season.
