Tom Brady to Make NFL Playoffs Commentary Debut on Jan. 18, Joining Buck, Aikman, and Andrews for Lions vs. Commanders Divisional Round

A controversy is brewing as Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, a potential candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach position, is connected to Tom Brady, who holds a minority stake in the Raiders. Brady secured the stake in May 2023 and also signed a lucrative 10-year, $375 million contract as FOX Sports’ lead NFL analyst.

Following the firing of Antonio Pierce on January 7, the Raiders are searching for a new head coach, and rumors suggest Brady could play a role in bringing Johnson to Las Vegas. Johnson, known for his innovative offensive strategies, is reportedly interviewing with several teams, including the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. He previously interviewed with the New England Patriots, who ultimately hired Mike Vrabel.

As the Lions’ postseason success continues, concerns are rising about Brady’s potential influence in Las Vegas and the fairness of his commentary. David Haugh, a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, criticized the NFL for allowing Brady to commentate on the game, calling it a “total conflict of interest.”

Brady’s praise for the Lions’ offense during their impressive 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys has only fueled these concerns, as many view his comments as biased. It was also reported that Brady sought guidance from his former coach, Bill Belichick, when searching for a replacement for Pierce. Despite some criticism of Johnson’s trick plays, Belichick defended the offense, suggesting that innovative strategies would continue into the NFL Playoffs.
