The game between Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers has been postponed.
At St James’ Park on Wednesday night, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers will return to
Premier League action following their respective wins in the FA Cup third round.
While their forthcoming guests defeated Championship opponents Bristol City 2-1 down south,
Eddie Howe’s men defeated Bromley 3-1 on the weekend to extend their winning streak to eight games in all competitions.
In the Premier League standings, however, a massive 19 points separate the two teams;
Vitor Pereira’s team sits just over the dreaded dotted line,
while the Magpies are within touching distance of the Champions League spots.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United have been squaring off in the top
flight ever since the 19th century – the first-ever Division One encounter between the
clubs was fought in September 1898 – and there have now been 108 competitive meetings in all tournaments.
Interestingly, it is the West Midlands side who hold the overall bragging rights with
42 wins compared to 36 triumphs for the Magpies, and another 30 encounters have ended all square.
