Warriors Prefer Retaining Andrew Wiggins Over Offering Jimmy Butler a Long-Term Deal
The Golden State Warriors are reportedly not interested in acquiring Jimmy Butler, as they’re unwilling to meet his demands for a new contract.
The ongoing Jimmy Butler trade saga has been one of the most prolonged in recent memory, but the Golden State Warriors are reportedly not looking to acquire him. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Warriors aren’t interested in offering Butler the contract he’s seeking and aren’t keen on bringing him in as a rental player. They also want to continue trusting players like Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga.
Amick explained, “They don’t have interest in giving him the deal that he’s waiting for on the other end, and I don’t think they’re looking to make him a rental and have a strained relationship with him coming to town if they somehow were able to get him.”
Despite the Warriors’ hesitation to make a deal for Butler, Amick noted that the team is recalculating their strategy after a tough loss to the Heat, who were without Butler. The frustration from ownership and management was palpable, and it highlights the urgency of finding the right move to strengthen the team. However, they remain satisfied with Wiggins’ performance and aren’t willing to part with Kuminga, even though he’s currently injured.
Although the Warriors have had a long-standing interest in Butler, they’re unlikely to make a move for him before the trade deadline, preferring to find another solution to improve their squad. That said, if the team’s performance continues to decline, a serious losing streak might push them to reconsider their stance.
