
Tragic Loss: Football Mourns Sudden Passing of 40-Year-Old Andrés Iniesta.
Following the tragic announcement of Michael Newberry’s untimely death at the young age of 27, Cliftonville FC is in shock. “Shaken and saddened” by this horrible tragedy, the club said.
After progressing through the academy’s ranks, Newberry joined the Northern Ireland team last summer. In his stint at Cliftonville, he made 19 appearances in the NIFL Premiership, including a memorable performance in their Boxing Day meeting against the .
Andres Iniesta, a former midfielder for Barcelona and Spain, has announced his retirement from football following a 24-year career filled with trophies.
During a time of consistent success for both Barcelona and Spain in the late 2000s and early 2010s, 40-year-old Iniesta was the center of their midfields.
At a press conference on Tuesday, a weeping Iniesta, who most recently played for Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates, said, “Please allow me to be a little emotional today.”
“I never imagined that this day would arrive. I never thought that would happen. Yes, all of the tears we have shed recently are tears of pride and emotion. They are not depressing tears.
“They are the tears of that boy from a small town like Fuentealbilla who wanted to play football and we succeeded after a lot of sacrifice, hard work, and never giving up—values that are fundamental to my life.” Together with everyone who has supported me, I am incredibly proud of my journey.
