Nottingham Forest target shuts down January transfer talk
On the day of the summer transfer deadline, Nottingham Forest attempted to recruit the 23-year
old.
It appears like Nottingham Forest has no chance of persuading Santiago Gimenez to join the City Ground during the transfer window next month. In an attempt to give Nuno Espirito Santo options
up front, the Reds pursued a number of strikers in the summer, including the Mexican.
Given Chris Wood’s incredible season thus far, it hasn’t mattered that Gimenez chose to remain at Feyenoord and Eddie Nketiah chose to move to Crystal Palace.
According to reports in Mexico, Gimenez stated that he is not prepared to leave the Eredivisie team midway through the season and that he wanted to stay to play Champions League games.
He explained his reasoning in an interview with TNT Sports, which MedioTiempo cited: “They
[Forest] wanted to pay what the club was asking, but in the end I decided to wait one more year
here at Feyenoord. Additionally, I had the chance to grow, play in the Champions League, and have
the option of another team that ultimately did not materialise on the last day, so I decided to wait
and since Nottingham gave me like one last day to say yes or no,” he said.
“The best would be to be in the top 5 of the best leagues, but I don’t have a team like that defined,
instead I let myself be guided by God and I know that what he brings me is the best for me,”
Gimenez continued, adding that Feyenoord is currently ranked 18th out of 36 teams in the
Champions League table. Gimenez is still open to a transfer at some point in his career.
