Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Vítor Pereira as their new head coach on an 18-month contract, following the dismissal of Gary O’Neil after a series of poor results.

Pereira, 56, brings a wealth of experience from managing clubs such as Porto, Olympiacos, and Flamengo. His immediate focus will be to address Wolves’ defensive vulnerabilities, as the team has conceded 40 goals in 16 Premier League matches, leaving them in 19th place.

The club has assured Pereira of funds to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window, with a center-back being a priority. His debut match is scheduled against Leicester City on Sunday.

Additionally, forward Matheus Cunha, who has been a key player with eight goals and three assists this season, may miss the upcoming game due to a misconduct charge.
