Leeds United: Pundit Predicts Dan James and Willy Gnonto Will Stay Amid Transfer Speculation

David Norris has expressed confidence that Leeds United will retain all of their key players, including Dan James and Willy Gnonto, during the January transfer window. Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Norris dismissed concerns about potential departures as the winter window approaches.

Leeds experienced significant player exits during the summer, with Archie Gray being the first high-profile sale, followed by Glen Kamara’s move to Rennes. Key attackers Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter also departed, joining West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively.

Despite these losses, Leeds have remained competitive in the Championship, thanks to strong summer recruitment. Under manager Daniel Farke, the team is determined to secure automatic promotion and avoid the heartbreak of last season’s playoff defeat to Southampton. Retaining key players like Gnonto and James is seen as crucial to their promotion ambitions.

Norris highlighted the importance of both players, who have been instrumental this season. Gnonto has registered 22 appearances with 4 goals and 5 assists, while James has contributed 4 goals and 2 assists in 15 matches across all competitions.

In his comments to MOT Leeds News, Norris stated:

“To be honest, I don’t think anyone leaves—at least not among the regular players. Leeds have a massive chance to get promoted, and losing players now would be devastating, especially in January. I don’t think they need to sell, and their league position keeps the players content. While players like Gnonto and James will attract interest, I find it very unlikely anything happens during the winter window.”
