Leeds Battle to Sign Louie Barry as Aston Villa Plan January Recall

Aston Villa have decided to recall Louie Barry from his loan spell at Stockport County in January and immediately send him on loan to a higher level, with Leeds United among several clubs vying for his signature, according to the Sunday Mirror (15 December, page 67).

The 21-year-old forward has been in sensational form in League One, netting 14 goals and providing an assist in 20 appearances while primarily playing on the left wing. Barry’s versatility, which allows him to operate across the front three, has made him a hot commodity, with promotion-chasing clubs like Burnley, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland also in the race to sign him.

Leeds are particularly keen, as manager Daniel Farke looks to add a consistent goalscorer to his squad. While Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have shown flashes of brilliance, they have struggled with inconsistency in front of goal. Barry’s proven scoring ability could fill that gap.

Barry’s performances at Stockport have drawn widespread praise, including from pundit Michael Dawson, who was left awestruck by the youngster’s debut goal in August. “Honestly, it’s unbelievable,” Dawson said on Sky Sports (via BirminghamLive, 10 August).

Aston Villa’s decision to test Barry at a higher level reflects their belief in his potential, and his next destination could significantly impact the promotion race in the Championship.
