“Brescia Fans Blast Cellino and Exploit His Superstition Over the Number 17”
Leeds United experienced a turbulent period under Massimo Cellino’s ownership from 2014 to 2017. During his time at Elland Road, the team struggled to deliver strong performances. In 2017, Cellino sold his stake to fellow Italian Andrea Radrizzani, paving the way for Leeds’ eventual return to the Premier League.
After leaving Leeds, Cellino invested in Brescia Calcio, where he is now facing backlash from fans, similar to his time in England. According to Corriere della Sera, tensions have risen between Brescia supporters and Cellino in recent weeks, with fans expressing their frustration through graffiti and planned protests.
Currently 10th in Serie B, Brescia has won just five of 16 league matches this season. Earlier this month, Cellino replaced coach Rolando Maran with Pierpaolo Bisoli. As Brescia prepare to host Carrarese on Sunday, fans from Curva Nord Brescia have announced a protest tied to Cellino’s well-known superstition about the number 17. They plan to enter the stadium in the 17th minute to make their dissatisfaction clear.
In a statement, Curva Nord Brescia criticized Cellino’s management, pointing to broken promises, lack of ambition, and an uncompetitive team. They accused him of avoiding accountability and called for greater effort and clarity from the club.
The statement concluded: “Don’t make excuses if you want to leave, like you did at Cagliari and Leeds. You’ve played your last card very poorly.”
