What the Sky Pundits Said About Cameron Carter-Vickers’ ‘Massive’ Performance vs Aberdeen
Celtic central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers remained a colossus at the back in the Hoops’
hard-fought 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie last night.
The American put in arguably his best performance of the season, making countless blocks,
interceptions, and tackles to help his side keep a deserved clean sheet.
Partnering with fellow US international Auston Trusty at the heart of the Hoops’ rearguard,
Carter-Vickers was consistent throughout the 90 and deservedly won the Scottish Premiership
Player of the Match award for his exploits.
Post-match, in the Sky Sports studio, the pundits praised the 26-year-old for his performance.
Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon outlined how important Carter-Vickers is to his side:
“You can’t take him for granted,” said the 53-year-old (live on Sky Sports).
“He’s so consistent, and in his absence, you really feel it when he’s not there.
He’s so calm even in the way he speaks; he gets on with the job, and he’s a manager’s dream.
“[Carter-] Vickers on the right, Trusty on the left – they’re both athletic and defend really well.
He’s come up with a massive block there – I do believe Sokler should have scored it and
it’s a good partnership not just domestically but in Europe as well.”
Sokler’s chance in the dying embers could easily have nestled in the back of the net,
but Carter-Vickers did enough to stick out a leg and divert the striker’s effort way over the bar.
As well as Lennon, ex-Celt Jonny Hayes was impressed by the defender last night:
“You see Cameron [Carter-Vickers] and Auston [Trusty] leading the rest of the team,
and it inspires the rest of the team and makes attacking players want to run back and help their defenders out,”
he said (live on Sky Sports).
“It makes midfielders want to put in blocks as much as defenders.
It’s that fighting spirit that every successful team will have.”
Success in football and rousing attacking performances are built on solid defensive foundations,
and that is precisely what Celtic have.
With the arrival of Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks over the summer and
Trusty’s continually developing partnership with Carter-Vickers,
the Scottish Premiership champions appear much more sound at the back this campaign than they were in 2023/24.
