Another Everton player has been added to the Roma roster as Friedkins plans for January. Undoubtedly, PSR is a factor.

With the Friedkins’ takeover at Everton in the final stages of completion,

the Italian media are building themselves up for a busy January transfer window.

Everton need signings, Roma need signings and as far as the Italians are concerned,

there’s no reason the clubs won’t be doing business between themselves.

Leggo add the latest to that today, throwing Abdoulaye Doucoure’s name into the mix as a possible reinforcement for Roma.

They report that the American owners will spend again in January to strengthen Roma,

taking advantage of UEFA’s ‘softer limits’ to strengthen Claudio Ranieri’s squad.

Two full backs and a striker will arrive at least while a midfielder is also being looked at should Enzo

Le Fée go out on loan. That’s where Doucouré is being mentioned, as his contract with Everton is expiring.

That would mean he’s free to discuss a pre-contract agreement from 1 January over a free transfer in the summer,

or potentially available for cheap because of that.

Any deal would be taking a player who plays for regularly from Everton, though,

and even worse be a negative on their PSR balance sheet. The Friedkins would, surely,

want to avoid this for their newly bought club.

The obvious answer is they pay a fee to Everton for Doucouré to help the PSR,

perhaps even for a slightly inflated fee but still seen as reasonable.

That stops Everton losing him on a free, helps Roma and is a PSR plus on Merseyside as well.

That’s just a guess at this point but the Italian media are convinced Everton and Roma will be

swapping players left right and centre in January and Doucouré is the latest to be added to the list.
