“Bears CB Jaylon Johnson Sounds Off After Clash with Matt Eberflus: ‘Enough Is Enough!'”
“Johnson has been part of the team since 2020, facing numerous frustrations along the way.”
Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson didn’t mind that news of his confrontation with former coach Matt Eberflus surfaced after the team’s loss to the Lions. He felt it was necessary to speak out.
“I don’t really care about it,” Johnson said Monday on 670 The Score’s Spiegel and Holmes Show. “At some point, enough is enough when it comes to expressing frustration… It’s not my first time dealing with firings. It’s a business, and people get fired all the time.
“I wasn’t the main reason he got fired, that’s not on me. But I expressed frustration from losing. I’ve been losing for five years. As a high-level player, at some point, someone has to say something. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing that went the way it went.”
Johnson was upset with Eberflus’ management of the game’s final moments, but his frustration peaked after Eberflus delivered a post-game speech, reportedly saying, “I know it’s hard. I know it’s difficult. We have a lot to be thankful for.”
That was the breaking point for Johnson, who admitted that his emotions were so intense he couldn’t recall everything he said to Eberflus in front of the team.
“Hearing certain things and seeing the way things went the past few weeks… You could say the past few weeks, but for me, it’s been the last five years of my career,” Johnson explained. “I’m used to winning, and I haven’t done that since I’ve been with the Bears.”
The loss to the Lions sealed Eberflus’ fate. The coach mismanaged the clock late in the game, leading to a 23-20 loss, with the Bears ending the game on an incomplete pass in Lions territory while still holding a timeout.
Johnson was drafted by the Bears in the second round under the previous administration, playing for former GM Ryan Pace and coach Matt Nagy. The Bears have gone 28-51 during his tenure.
