IBROX LATEST: Kasanwirjo Rangers transfer option in major doubt as Ibrox stars sent clear message in his absence
The Dutch defender faces up to six months out and his Ibrox loan stint might now be OVER
Rangers skipper James Tavernier has wished devastated team-mate Neraysho Kasanwirjo a speedy recovery.
The Dutch defender fears his Ibrox loan stint might now be over after it was confirmed he faces being ruled out for up to six months. Kasanwirjo signed up for a 12-month stint in the summer but has now returned to parent club Feyenoord after rupturing knee ligaments while on duty with Holland’s Under-21 side against England.
Rangers had negotiated an option to buy the versatile stopper next summer but that has now been thrown into major doubt as he begins his long, gruelling rehab work. The 22-year-old had been challenging Tavernier for his right-back slot but the captain has been left heartbroken by his colleague’s plight.
He said: “Obviously it happened in the international break when he was playing for Holland. It didn’t look the greatest one, but he’s obviously had the operation, and he was a great asset for the team as he could play full-back, centre-back, so could play a few different roles.
“So he’ll be a big miss for the team, but it’s now down to the rest of the players to fill that gap. But we’re hoping for him to have a really fast recovery. He’s not been back to the club since it happened but obviously I have spoke to him.
“It’s never nice to see an injury like that, or for someone to go underneath the knife, and it’s never nice to see that on the team or any player. But he’s a strong character, so hopefully can really recover quickly from this.”
