D.J. Humphries? Morris, Wanya? Joe Thuney? How will the KC Chiefs address the problem of a left tackle?
The Chiefs’ biggest position conundrum remains unresolved. In an emergency move late in the narrow victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last Friday, the Chiefs benched starting left tackle Wanya Morris, moved left guard Joe Thuney into his position and brought Mike Caliendo off the bench to play guard. Is this the plan for the next game, at home against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football? Does Morris return to the role? Or is newly acquired D.J. Humphries ready to step in and lock down the position?
Andy Reid was asked about all the options and committed to no scenario. Here’s what he said about Humphries, signed by the Chiefs last week: “We’ll work him in and see how he feels,” Reid said. “That’s the main thing. He hasn’t played in a while, so I just want to make sure he’s in a good position.” Humphries spent the previous eight years with the Arizona Cardinals, including a Pro Bowl season in 2021. He’s coming off a torn ACL but practiced with the Chiefs last week. With a short period to prepare for the Raiders, Humphries wasn’t activated.
