Al Michaels Hilariously Blasted Refs After ‘Expedited Review’ in Chiefs-Raiders
Following a review ruling that took a bit too long to come down from above,
Michaels aptly conveyed his dissatisfaction with the officials as the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders game neared halftime on Friday.
After a throw from Patrick Mahomes to Noah Grey was first deemed incomplete, the call was made.
At the time of the call, there were 14 seconds remaining,
but a 10-second run-off was required when a “expedited review” changed the call to a completed pass.
To be fair to the authorities officiating the game, it’s not exactly a straightforward series of
rule readings, and the officials took the time to explain the situation to Andy Reid, the coach of the Chiefs.
However, with all of the back and forth, Michaels felt compelled to respond when the referee attempted
to assert that the review was “expedited.”
“If that’s an expedited review, I’m an astronaut,” Michaels told the airwaves.
Fans praised Michaels for his candor.
The Chiefs managed to spike the ball to set up a field goal to close the half when
the time was settled, but kicker Matthew Wright missed the 59-yard effort.
