The ex-Goodison scout claims the 27-year-old isn’t consistent enough.
“He is another Everton signing who has never quite lived up to the potential. There have been little periods where he’s looked the business. However, there have been much longer periods where he hasn’t looked good at all.
“The supporters at Everton are pretty good judges and I think they’ve been pretty tolerant with him. Therefore, he needs to sharpen up now and demonstrate to people that he can be a reliable striker.
“However, his inconsistency has caused doubt among supporters about him. Is he the right striker for Everton? Personally, as it looks at the moment, I don’t think so.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to sign a brand-new contract at Everton?
Calvert-Lewin is constantly being linked with an exit from Everton [via ASRomaLive, 24 November].
However, with clubs beginning to decide against signing the striker [via TEAMtalk, 25 November], Calvert-Lewin might feel as though he is better suited to remaining with the Toffees.
If he is unable to secure a desirable move away from Goodison Park, and the club remain in the Premier League, there is no reason why the forward wouldn’t want to stay put.
However, the Toffees should be thinking about whether or not Calvert-Lewin deserves a new contract.
The former England international is without a goal in his last eight games and will need to improve if he hopes to justify any potential new contract.
